What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a sideways curve of the spine in an “S” or “C” shape rather than a straight line down the back. To be diagnosed with scoliosis, the curvature must be at least 10 degrees. In addition to the sideways curvature, scoliosis involves rotation of the spine. It can occur in people of all ages, but it occurs most often in children and adolescents. In most people, there is no known cause for this curve. There are several types of curves, and the degree of each curve varies with the individual.
